Q1. Discuss the organizational
arrangements for the HMIS in India.
Answer. Brief description of all the three levels of
organizational arrangement of HMIS:
The
organizational arrangement of HMIS and the agencies responsible for it is
discussed in the three levels namely central, state and district.
Central Level: At
the central level there are four major agencies dealing with the HMIS.
Ø Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI): Central Bureau
of Health Intelligence (CBHI) is the health intelligence wing of the
Directorate General of Health Services.
Ø Statistics Division
in the Department of Health and Family Welfare: The division is well staffed with a chief director and four joint directors.
It is organized into computer unit, demography unit, performance monitoring and
evaluation unit and impact monitoring unit. Impact monitoring unit has again
field evaluation unit and concurrent evaluation unit.
Ø The Sample
Registration System (SRS): India conducts census operations once in every ten
years. In between, the estimates of vital statistics are based on a System
called Sample Registration System. SRS is a large scale demographic survey
conducted in India for providing reliable annual
estimates of birth rate, death rate and other fertility and mortality
indicators at the national and sub-national levels.
Q2. Explain the categories of
Information system in hospital. Add a note on functional areas of Hospital

Answer. There are three general categories of
information systems available in hospitals: clinical or medical information
system, information system to support administrative operation and management
planning and control systems (to consider as an administrative information
system) and ancillary (support service) technical information system.
Clinical or Medical Information
System: Clinical or medical information
systems are designed primarily to support direct patient care activities in the
hospital. Specific applications range from direct computerized monitoring of
the vital functions of critically ill patients in intensive care to records retrieval
system, so designed to aid the medical audit process in the hospital to ensure
that quality standards are being maintained.
Q3. Define E-health. Discuss the
advantages and challenges in E-health.
Answer. E-health is
defined as the use of communication and information technology in the field of
medicine. Transfer of medical records or other related data takes place through
electronic processes. It also enables two professional sat different
geographical locations to interact with each other.

provides many advantages in the field of healthcare services. They are:

Answer. The process of audit involves the
following steps:
1. Recognize Problem or Issue: In this phase, the issue to be audited is
chosen. It also involves evaluating adherence to healthcare procedures that
have shown best results for patients.
2. Set Criteria and Standards: Decisions relating to the overall purpose of
the audit should be written as a series or a statement of tasks that the audit

Quality assurance in the health care field, a pledge to
the public by those within the various health disciplines that they will work
toward the goal of an optimal achievable degree of excellence in the services
rendered to every patient. Since the 1960s there has been an increasing
emphasis on the individual citizen's right to health and the obligation of
individual members of the health care team to hold them accountable to the
public for the caliber of care they provide.
